Hawa Russia in NE Columbus

borscht at Hawa RussiaWe finally got to eat at Hawa Russia on Dublin Granville Road, just east of Cleveland Avenue. Hawa Russia has  been open for months.

We tried to go out to dinner at Hawa Russia one Sunday.  They close very early on Sunday.  We tried to go out for dinner at Hawa Russia on two Saturday nights recently and they had “a nightclub.”   We visited finally on Thursday night.

I am not a food blogger… or a photo blogger but that is my photo of my borscht!!!!  A picture of my entree did not come out well.  I ordered a cabbage roll…  I did not take a photo of my Hawa Russia salad…I  tore into the salad  when it arrived.  After seeing a photo of the Hawa Russia Salad on a review of the restaurant on ColumbusFoodie I’d craved that salad.  The salad is as good as it looks on Columbus Foodie.

Hawa Russia is at 2680 E. Dublin Granville Road in Columbus

Cafe Anatolia

Cafe Anatolia We went to Cafe Anatolia just before 8:00 Saturday night (OSU - Penn State game) and the place was deserted.  It is a tiny restaurant, there were two other couples there dining.

Cafe Anatolia is on the far north side of Columbus, in the Worthington area (north-east of Worthington, north of 270.) The restaurant’s address is 1097 Worthington Galena Road, Worthington Ohio 43085

The local Turkish restaurant, Cafe Anatolia has a website.  It’s an outdated website that does not do the restaurant justice but how important is a restaurant website??

Don’t believe the menu prices…. at least the dinner menu online is probably two generations old. The excellent Shepherd Salad is now $9.99 for the large.  The large salad should be labeled a huge.  We split one and I had the leftover salad for breakfast.

According to the sign in the window the lunch buffet is a dollar less expensive now than it was on the menu on the Cafe Anatolia menu on their website today, at $6.99.

This is probably the 4th or 5th time I have visited Cafe Anatolia for dinner.  This is the first time I’ve tried the Shepherds Salad (Coban Salatasi I believe ) but I could have had the same entree each time for all I know…  I do kind of get in a rut.  The entree pictured here is Doner Kebab… gyro meat.  I should have a ~ over the n in Doner….

Cafe Anatolia is never a fast place but the service is always very good.  Personally I believe Cafe Anatolia is just set at a different pace.

Columbus BEST, location, location, location

The best place for steak, dessert, Mexican food, Asian food, pizza, barbecue, breakfast and more according to AOL CityGuide anyway….  Columbus BEST dining and night life

The results were out a couple of days ago… but I never got around to looking… maybe because I had looked a week or so before and knew how it was going to end up… in most categories.

It seems like the restaurants with the most locations won in a few categories… probably people voted for their local Bob Evans and Graeter’s more than the actual location named in the competition.  Maybe the same is true for some of the other categories too.. barbecue, pizza.

I voted for my favorite barbecue place,  Hoggy’s even if the location on the poll was not the Polaris location that I visit occasionally… and did not vote for my second favorite on that list, City Barbeque even if it is the Polaris location on the list.

Beware of locations on the AOL CityGuide, they have one Mexican restaurant in Clintonville that moved to Grove City earlier this year.  The AOL City Guide has a BBQ joint out in the Gahanna / New Albany area that long ago moved to Cleveland Ave.

On the Talita’s listing on AOL CityGuide a recent comment / review says:

“For those who don’t know this - Talita’s went out last fall, it’s now under newer management, and not nearly as good as Talita’s once was - however - if you want food as good as Talita’s - her son runs a mexican place in Grove City”
A Mexican place which according to their own website, is Talitas. Talita’s moved to that south-west Franklin County suburb.   The important thing is Talita’s is on the poll but not in the location on the CityGuide.  The good news for anyone relying on the CityGuide to find a Mexican restaurant in Clintonville there is a new Mexican restaurant at the location which was formerly Talita’s…
ColumbusBestBlog.com is not related to AOL City’sBEST or CityGuide in anyway.

2008 Columbus Best Breakfast

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Who is in the running in the 2008 “CITY’S BEST” (no relation to ColumbusBestBlog.com) breakfast poll on the AOL.com City Guide?

A local Bob Evan’s is leading the pack. I wonder if people see Bob Evan’s and vote, thinking of their local northwest Columbus, Dublin, Worthington, Westerville, etc. Bob Evan’s with out clicking to see that the location is on S. High Street in Columbus. I can assure you I have never eaten at that location. Will all of the Bob Evan’s restaurants in Central Ohio claim the honor if the S. High Street location wins?

The Starliner Diner in Hilliard is on the list… as is a diner on the west side of Columbus. Jack & Benny’s at 2563 N High Street which is just south of E. Hudson Street is on the poll too.

I voted for “Scramblers.” AOL City Guide guide (and poll) calls the restaurant both “Marie’s Scramblers,” and then “Scrambler Marie’s.”

Which “Scramblers” location is on the poll? The Scrambler’s on Cleveland Avenue just south of 270 (located south of Westerville, north of Minerva Park, great location for Sunday morning breakfast crowds from both the Vineyard and Xenos… churches nearby… we used to run into the “breakfast” crowd from Ascension Lutheran on Morse Road, at the “Scramblers” Cleveland Avenue location often.  Small church, big breakfast crowd in comparison to the two behemoths.  The Cleveland Avenue location was the first “Scramblers” I ever ate at but I think the “Scramblers” at Polaris is better.  Polaris is definitely closer for me… (excuse me, my world revolves around me…) and more convenient. There’s a Scramblers in Hillard. North side locations include, the 6152 Cleveland Avenue location (Corporate Exchange Park ) the one in the vote… , the Powell location at 3980 Presidential Parkway and my favorite now…. 8679 Sancus Boulevard in the Polaris area.

That name thing… the restaurant’s website says “Cafe Marie and Scramblers is now Scrambler Marie’s!” In my head it may always be “Scramblers”….  I am glad the Marie is after… not before in the name

No sign of First Watch Restaurants on the City Guide BEST list.

Only 19 days left to vote for the best breakfast in Columbus? The winner will be announced on July 22, 2008.
