Thanks for the comment (s) Paul,

I disliked zoos so I have only been to the two in Chicago, Brookfield and Lincoln Park, the Milwaukee Zoo, the Vilas Zoo in Madison and a zoo in Wilmington DE before the Columbus Zoo... I was disappointed the first time I went to the Columbus Zoo that it was not huge.

I have come to appreciate that it is not huge and how educational at least the Columbus Zoo is. I wonder if I would have read the displays at zoos as a kid or whether the educational opportunity would have been lost on me. I have to believe to compete Zoos have all had to upgrade and get involved in animal conservation.

I wondered how the guy from Born Free feels about places like 'The Wilds'. I went to the Wild Animal Park out in San Diego (not the zoo!)

I can find lots of information on the internet but it is not the same as real life. Watching documentaries and looking at info on the internet is not going to teach us as much about animals as going to the zoo does.

Zoos have come a long way since I was a kid. I remember the Pittsburgh zoo being just a bunch of animals in cages. Over the years I’ve been to zoos in Cincinnati, Los Angeles, San Antonio and of course Columbus. It seems most now do eveything they can to take care of the animals. I’m with Jack Hanna on this. Today’s zoos are educational. They get people interested in preserving wildlife.

Columbus is fortunate to have such a high quality zoo.
