Columbus Restaurants - WIN $1350 in “coupons”

Diner sign with edgeThey look more like coupons than gift certificates to me but the man who sold me the “Amazing Promotions - Platinum Series Gift Certificates and Discounts” called them Gift Certificates rather than coupons.  Post your ten favorite Central Ohio restaurants for a chance to win one set of Platinum Series … oh heck I am going to call them restaurant coupons….

  • Fine Dining
  • Casual Dining
  • Fast Foods / Pizza

To me it looks like mostly  casual dining and fast foods / pizza although Au Bon Pan, The Clarmont, 94th Aero Squadron and The Worthington Inn are represented.

Other restaurants represented include The Spaghetti Warehouse, Gibby’s, Planks, Mohawk, Buckeye Cafe, Panda House at Polaris, Columbus Maennerchor, Red Door Tavern, Talita’s…

There are coupons (Gift Certificates)  for local locations of national chains like Subway, Taco Bell, Domino’s Pizza, White Castle (based in Columbus) and one of my favorites, Waffle House…

Nope there’s very little fine dining but there are lots of coupons, I mean Gift Certificates soColumbus w/ white border one lucky local person who posts their ten favorite restaurants will win a set.

My Ten Favorite Columbus Restaurants are:

  1. Columbus Fish Market
  2. La Hacienda Real
  3. First Watch
  4. Acropolis
  5. Mitchell’s Steakhouse
  6. Hyde Park
  7. The Waffle House
  8. Anatolia
  9. Baja Fresh
  10. Tandoori Palace*

I know my list proves when it comes to food I am pretty  low brow… I think the Waffle House is the only restaurant on my list that is in the ”Amazing Promotions - Platinum Series” Gift Certificates and Discounts.

Include your list here even if it looks like:

  1. White Castle at 111 S High St
  2. White Castle at 801 E 5th Ave
  3. White Castle at 4525 Kenny Rd
  4. White Castle at 5875 Scarborough Blvd

etc. There are at least a couple of “Gift Certificates to White Castle” one is just a free hamburger… no strings attached (as in not buy one get one free….  just a free slider…I mean burger…) My favorite Waffle House is the one at Polaris, but the one on 161 in front of the strip club is better for people watching.

I will draw for the free ”Amazing Promotions - Platinum Series Gift Certificates and Discounts” on February 1, 2007 among anyone who leaves a list here.

Amazing Promotions

* Closed but not forgotten… I keep hoping it will be open when I drive by. I need a new favorite Indian Restauarant…. Help if you can suggest one.

    This is tough …

    1. Columbus Fish Market at Crosswoods
    2. Der Duthman in Plain City
    3. Smith & Wollensky at Easton - Wonderful place to eat, but ouch …
    4. Molly Woo’s at Polaris
    5. Final Score in Delaware — best wing sauce!
    6. Carabas Italian at Polaris
    7. Tria in Powell — Neat Greek restaurant
    9. El Aculpoco in Delaware
    9. Red Rock Cafe in Delaware - $3.50 for a great burger and fries on Sunday, how can you go wrong?
    10. White Castle — had to throw it in. They are so good, but oh so bad.

Some of the high-dollar places, but have to admit we usually end up at the lower-end more often than not. The top-3 are in order, then everything below could change on the mood.

Honorable mention: City BBQ, Hoggy’s, El Vaqueroz (I know I spelled that wrong), Potbelly … hmm … getting an idea why I’m in a weight loss group?

  9. Sean Says:

As far as Indian restaurants are concerned, my wife and I discovered Taj Palace (at Mill Run) when we first moved to the city 8 years ago. We’ve been regulars there ever since! The quality of the food and service is impeccable and has been so since we first happened upon this restaurant while in the midst of unpacking. The serving and kitchen staff have not changed since we first went there and the owners are always friendly and recognize their regulars warmly.

Indian happens to be our favorite cuisine, and of all the Indian restaurants we’ve dined at throughout the country, this has been the best.

  10. moinoh Says:

Thanks Sean. I will have to try it when I am over that way. I am a slug when it comes to most restaurants that are not right in the Worthington or Polaris area…If there were more restaurants in the Clintonville area that would also work…

Please come back with 9 more restaurants and give ColumbusBestBlog.com a list if you can but I hate to say it scanning the list of coupons / gift certificates I do not see a single Indian Restaurant in the bunch!

  11. Toby Says:

There is a new Indian buffet in the strip mall at the intersection of Polaris and Old State. I haven’t been there, but figure one of these day Gretchen will drag me to Scrapbook Arts (I really don’t mind) and we’ll check it out.

Oh, and yes, she is the wife of a certain blogger. :-)

  12. columbusbestblog.com » Blog Archive » and the winner is…. Says:

[...] due to a totally underwhelming response to my request for lists of ten favorite restaurants… on ColumbusBestBlog.com I will give Chris, Gary, Toby, Gretchen (Toby’s wife?… some blogger is married to a Gretchen) and Paul all a set of coupons… gift certificates… whatever they are.. Heck Sean can have  a set  for giving me the name of a good Indian restaurant.  [...]

  13. moinoh Says:

Toby… you were stuck in my spam filter.

The Indian buffet on Sancus (one street over from Old State) south of Polaris? We ate there once… did the buffet.. it was vegetarian that night.. most of my favorite Indian dishes are vegetarian … but I was not thrilled with anything on the buffet… Or is there another Indian Place on the other side of the Chase (Bank One) building?

I hear Ha Long Bay in the same vicinity as the Indian buffet on Sancus is good.. according to the Restauarant Widow…Lisa. Ha Long Bay is Vietnamese. I have never had Vietnamese. My significant other did have an opportunity to dine on Vietnamese food for a year or so (18 months?) a few decades back… he is not nolstalgic about the cuisine…

I have not mailed your and coupons (and Gretchen’s) yet. I was hoping to hear from Chris and Gary so I could mail them all at the same time. Maybe I better look again at Askimet.

You are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late for top ten restaurants.

  16. Curt Says:

I am running into a lot of problems with the amazing promotions coupons. Many places are not honoring them. Suisse Shop, Popeyes, Tarantos, Papa Murphys and several others will not honor them

  17. Maureen McCabe Says:

That’s a shame. Quadoba (?) is the only one I have run into. They will do the coupon as buy one, get one free but not just come on in for a free meal. We used it… as buy one get one free, the sign on their door says it was misprinted, should have always been buy one, get one free…

I wonder about any company “Suisse Shop, Popeyes, Tarantos, Papa Murphys ” who does not honor their own advertisement. Not places I go to though.

Thanks for the heads up Curt.

  18. Kimberly Says:

I to am running into problems using coupons. Papa Murphys, Tarontos, Rallys, Hooter’s. Restaraunt managers are telling me that these were illegally printed with out their permission. Funny thing is, in the beginning restaurants were accepting coupons. I wonder how many more restaurants will stop honoring coupons?

  19. Maureen McCabe Says:

That’s odd. I have not run into that with these.

I personally doubt the advertising people just randomly printed up ads for businesses.

A number of years ago we bought a coupon book that benefited WOSU. One nice northside restaurant went through a management change and decided not to honor the card. I called the next day and talked to someone who said the waiter and supervisor misunderstood, to use the discount the next time we came in. We’ve never been back.

I don’t eat at any of the places you mention but thanks for the heads up.
