Columbus Utterz

Friday, April 25th, 2008

cowI got sucked into Utterz this AM…. I have resisted.  I have listened to a few “Utterz” before from people I know around the country.

I resisted despite the catchy ”be herd” tagline.

My 2008 Social Media Plan did NOT include Utterz.  I believe I knew about Utterz at that point (early January 2008) and was actively resisting any urge to join.  What would I be joining if I was not committed to NOT joining.  I saw a Twitter about this Utterz.  I clicked on a link…

What is there about someone talking about Columbus weather that would break down my resistance to joining something else?  I’ll never know.

Will I ever “Utterz” anything?  Maybe.  Maybe not.

Who else in Columbus Utterz?

Columbus wants to be…

Columbus skyline as a postcardChicago?  Cleveland?

Really?

I don’t think Columbus wants to be Chicago or Cleveland…

A Dayton blog thinks Columbus has aspirations to be Chicago or Cleveland?

In “I wish we were more like…” Dayton Most Metro claims:

  • Columbus = Cow Town

  • And they hate the fact that whenever mentioned on the national stage, they are always called Columbus, Ohio as opposed to just Columbus (and some have suggested they change their name.)

I think the first is Cow-Town… or so my ColumbusBestBlog.com spell check tells me.  My category here is Cowtown but that’s because that was what the category was on the original Columbus Best Blog and that blog is sooooo old it did not have spell check when I started.

The Columbus Ohio thing… Gee I hope Columbus doesn’t change the cities name… I’d have two blogs I’d need to rename.  I think Columbus is OK with all those other mini Columubuses sharing the same name.  I can understand why we often have to use the state name… I have lots of searches for other Columbuses end up on my Columbus Ohio real estate blogs.

I say embrace the cows!

If the California Cows Relocated to Columbus

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

If the California Cows (”Happy cows”… in a series of commercials for California cheese) relocated to Central Ohio… they could probably afford more land.  The outlying counties would probably be more appropriate for relocation as land prices are higher in Franklin and Delaware County.

There are cows inside 270 though, the OSU herds in Northwest Columbus. There’s a dairy herd and a beef herd living in the city.  Sorta.

Columbus Introduced Cows to the New World

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

cowDid you know Columbus (Christopher, the Italian explorer in the employ of the Spanish government that Columbus Ohio is named after…)  introduced cows to the New World.  According to Matt on his Bag Wine Ruminations blog’s Columbus Day post “Land D’oh”:

“For instance, most people do not know that Columbus introduced cows to the natives. Now why is that significant? Let me tell you. In order to keep the natives from bothering the cattle and preventing theft of the bovine, Columbus kept them penned up in an area guarded by a sailor named Giuseppe.

Everyday at noon, Giuseppe would eat his lunch…the same thing everyday. He would eat a semi-circle shaped piece of dough that was stuffed with cheese and sausage. When asked what this delicacy was called, he said, “ I don’t know, but it really helps me to get through working twelve straight hours here in the Cow-Zone.” The spelling may have changed, but to this day it is a staple of fine Pizzeria dining.”

I love calzone’s but have not had one in years…  Spinach calzones from Sumeno’s when they were on Sawmill Road, south of Snouffer Rd. back in the early 90’s.

Land D’oh goes on to explain how the new world got Stromboli.  Again the spelling has changed since “1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue.”   Or was it 1493 when Columbus sailed the deep blue sea”

Stromboli… memories Route 3 (Westerville Rd.)   just south of south of Dempsy Rd. in Blendon Township… Carsonie’s? Sits at the front of the plaza there.  Boccie ball courts in front…

He says he is from Bagwine Ohio.  Is there such a place?  Matt of Bag Wine Rumination is very, very funny.

Columbus a little bit country?

Real Living LogoThere’s a Real Living ‘For Sale’ sign is in a music video on CMT.com but try as I might I can not see what the logo says, what the second circle contains, which would tell me where the video is set.  Not that it matters.  The setting, the people  look more country than Columbus. I thought Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas.  Lots of the midwest is a little bit country.

Columbus is called a cow town sometimes. On our company intranet (Real Living, one circle)  it says: “Real Living has hit the country music circuit! A Real Living yard sign can be seen in the new Montgomery Gentry music video for their song “What Do You Think About That?” The yard sign is shown a few times within the first minute of the video. “

A country group, I had never heard of,  Montgomery Gentry ’s “What Do You Think About That” (full length video)  on CMT.com until reading about it on Real Living’s intranet site for agents.  Click on the song title to play the video… you may have to watch a commercial first.  Once I got a Chevrolet commercial, usually I get the opportunity to watch a commercial for Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.  Once or twice I got away with seeing the video without watching a commercial!

I like music videos.  I especially like music videos when they tell a story.  Although I am not a country music fan (just not a lot of exposure, I had a country period of a couple of years in the 90’s ) I like how even just the music in country music tells a story.

This video tells a story but I don’t really  get it.  The song is about gossip?  People talking about people?  People caring about what people think about them?  Or not caring?  There is a neighborhood, there’s a house with a Real Living sign, there is a couple who bought the house? There’s a moving truck.  Moving in? The motor cycle (a “Vengeance Banshee”?) There is a drag race? They lost me but I watched the video  over and over to try to figure it out.  So much so that I am craving Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

It’s a Real Living sign but I am not sure which market or franchise.  Real Living which is based in Columbus is in 20 states now.  I saw the logo but I can’t make it out.

Our logo in Central Ohio as of the first of the year was changed from a big circle with HER in it to a little circle with HER in it and a big circle with Real Living in it.  Real Living HER’s logo is in the sidebar here.  That’s a bit of the local story.
