Columbus Mexican Restaurant Poll

tacoI did a poll over a year ago on Mexican restaurants in Central Ohio on the original Columbus Best Blog (now called Discover Columbus) when I found a blog where someone who’d relocated to Columbus from Southern California wrote:

 

“1) The Mexican food here SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. Awful.”

 

The here being Columbus. In response I posted My 10 Favorite Columbus Mexican Restaurants.

 

The problem with the poll on Discover Columbus is I can’t open the results anymore. Almost 50% of the results are “other” and I can’t open it… It is a popular entry on that blog even a year later so I’m trying to recover the account that the poll is on…

 

I eat a lot of Mexican food. I am an addict. I try to order it more healthy because I know all the melted cheese and sour cream is not healthy and not necessarily authentic. Some on the list here are very authentic.  Others aren’t.   Vote for your favorites.  I have trouble choosing just one personally.

 

It’s a year later, restaurants come and go in Central Ohio… so I’ve done a new poll for this blog with an “other” in case I’ve missed your favorite… anyone visiting from Phoenix, Tucson, Southern California or elsewhere sit on your hands this is a poll about Mexican Restaurants in Central Ohio. Anyone who owns or operates a Mexican Restaurant in Central Ohio… don’t vote please. Gracias.

Candlelight for Chanukah

December 2, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 there is a Chanukah event at the Inniswood Metro Gardens in Westerville, called “Luminaries in the Garden: Chanukah” on the Metro Parks calendar.

I believe Chanukah starts December 4, 2007 at sundown.  The event at Inniswood Gardens  is described on the Metro Parks schedule:

 ”Enjoy the gardens by candlelight and warm up at the Innis House while listening to the Koleinu Choir.”

I tried finding a website for more info about the Koleinu Choir but did not find anything (there are mentions of past performances on various sites) but a This Week Newspapers about a December 16 event at the Worthington Mall says :

“KOLEINU, Hebrew for “Our Voice,” was founded in 1992 by Cantor Jack Chomsky of Congregation Tifereth Israel and Cantor Vicki Axe, then of Temple Israel. The chorus is co-directed by Chomsky and Gail Rose. ”

Santa Claus in Worthington

Santa on the Worthington GreenSanta Claus hung out in front of the Worthington Inn all afternoon Sunday, November 25, 2007 meeting kids. However when the Worthington Police delivered Santa to the Worthington Green for the Tree Lighting he seemed disoriented, saying something about being in Westerville…

Westerville, Worthington, I guess when you only visit a couple of times each year, you could get the two Central Ohio communities confused.  He’ll have his reindeer to help him out on December 24 when he comes back to deliver the goods.

It was raining pretty good by the time Santa got to the Worthington Green for the treeWorthington Green Christmas Tree 2007 lighting at 5:30. A few Christmas carols were sung by candle light. There were lots of umbrellas as you can see of the photo of the tree on the south- east quadrant of the Worthington Green.

We got there late afternoon, walked up and down the street, took lots of photos that did not turn out, got coffee at the Mean Bean and listened to e Christmas carols in the rain.

Wild Life in Central Ohio

I went on two nature hikes in the Metro Parks this weekend. Columbus Metro Park Hikes The first Friday I forgot to take a camera… it was a moonlight hike…in Sharon Woods Metro Park… how much picture taking could there have been? There were great shots of the full moon at Sharon Woods Metro Park on Friday evening. We saw a great horned owl too thanks to volunteers who knew what we were looking for. I saw it fly away… what a wing span. Would have made a great photo… oh well we did not bring a camera.

We took the camera to a moonlight walk at Battelle Darby Park on Saturday evening… we were ready. In the ranger station prior to the hike we talked about what animals we could see, deer, flying squirrels, owls, coyotes. We looked at the taxidermied (stuffed… spell check is unsure about the spelling of the word I am grasping for animals who have had taxidermy done to ‘em) animals at the ranger station.

The natuaralist said there is at least one badger living in the Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park now… and beavers, coyotes, river otters, muskrats, foxes, flying squirrels, owls, etc.

Saturday November 24, 2007 was the full moon and the Metro Parks called it the full Beaver Moon, the early settlers and the Native Americans needed to set their traps for beaver. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day so we never saw the full moon… Or any animals… the naturalist, Gary did owl calls, to no avail. Some thought they saw a deer as we crossed one of the roads in the park, but it was a sign… It was dark.

It was a four mile hike. Very hilly but no moon, no animals.

Returning to the ranger station we took pictures of some of the Ohio wildlife including a beaver, a badger, a river otter, ducks, a fox, a coyote and a skunk… other stuffed animals in the Ranger Station included minks, a muskrat, and owls, including the great horned owl.

I could not identify the muskrat I guessed ground hog… but I guessed the badger… The stuffed skunk at the ranger station is brownish red so I guessed it was a badger too… I think skunks are black not brown. When in doubt guess badger…

Clintonville Beechwold Debate II

A relocating client asked me… about the boundaries of Clintonville and Beechwold.

On the Clintonville.org website hosted by the Clintonville Community Fund, Where does Clintonville end and Beechwold begin? says:

“It all depends on who you ask - but the truthful answer remains the same. Neither “Clintonville” nor “Beechwold” ever existed as political or formally recognized entities. Thus any answer as to where the boundaries are between the two areas is an answer based on myth.”

Creating more confusion About.com has a page about “Beechwold” that calls out addresses on Cliffside Drive, Montrose Way, Webster Park Ave., Richards Rd., W. Beechwold Blvd., and Riverview Park Dr.  as Beechwold.  About.com says the boundaries are nebulous but he uses Henderson Rd as a south end… yet

Cliffside Drive - that must be South Beechwold - a block North of Arcadia (in case my sarcasm does not translate… Cliffside is south for Clintonville. Clintonville is south of Beechwold… )

Montrose Way  is south of the Park of Roses… to me that is Clintonville.

Webster Park Ave south of the Park of Roses… Clintonville

Richards Rd. east of the Park of Roses… I call it Clintonville

W. Beechwold Blvd. Beechwold right? No, to me that’s Old Beechwold. You have to make a distinction between the homes… and the rest of Beechwold.

Like wise Riverview Park Dr. is Old Beechwold to me.

So where does Clintonville start and Beechwold begin? Depends… 

Unless Realtor.com has corrected it Clintonville is a village in Summit County… but their map shows the Clintonville Beechwold area.  Average price for Clintonville
