Columbus Ohio what a bunch of garbage!

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

monopoly game piecesSomethings never change.  One of my tops posts for traffic on Discover Columbus (my first blog which used to be named Columbus Best Blog) was Color Coded Trash written waaaaay back in February 2006.   Discover Columbus never got much traffic so it is odd that “garbage” like that gets read.

Please forgive me for ‘recycling’ this topic.

“Columbus uses a color coded trash system with a rotating calendar throughout the year.  You have to respect a Refuse Division with a posted vision.  You have to respect a division that moves that much refuse. “

In Columbus Ohio, it’s Navy Day today.  I thought there would be a map on the refuse division info on the city website in this day and age.  You can do so much with mapping and websites.  I was picturing a color coded map.  Maybe it’s there and I just don’t see it.  Instead you can look up by address on the website.   ”To look up your designated color or day, “click here.”  the site says.

The City of Columbus Website about Refuse Collection

Did you even know about the  “Refuse Collection Ball” or “Doris the Recyclasaurus”?  I don’t believe I knew of either until I read the history …  trash collection dates back to 1906 in the City of Columbus.

There are new things on the horizon in Columbus refuse collection too, more of a focus on green,  recycling… If there was a map I could see if there was a green area.

No… green area Green is for everyone in Columbus Ohio,  Get Green Columbus

Homes that sell are on the maket 11 days longer than a year ago.  There is almost nine months of inventory on the market!!  8.3 months of homes available. based on sales in the month of August.

Homes are selling within 97% of list price so sellers have to be priced right.

market report though August 2007 Click on the graph that shows home sales and inventory  and it will open up.  The light green bars are inventory by month.  The dark green bars on the graph are the properties sold by month.  The red line is the number of homes that are “Pending” or under contract by month for Delaware County for the past 15 months.  These are single family and condominium homes.

It’s a buyers market in Delaware County with 9.9 months of inventory on the market. A year ago at the end of Autgust there was 8.9 months inventory of homes available in Delaware County.  Hopefully there were sales which were not reported and there is not more than 13 months  inventory available based on ”Pending” sales.

Home sales in August were down slightly from a year ago.  Inventory is up by 64 properties compared to a year ago, but virtually unchanged from the end of July 2007. The average list price is only down $3 from this time last year and average sale price is $12 lower than at the end of August 2007.  Price per square foot is down $7.

Days on market is 7 days longer than it was at the end of August 2006.

Columbus Days - October 2007

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Columbus Day, the holiday is not on the poll.  In Columbus it becomes “Columbus Days”, or maybe it is “Experience Columbus Days” the first weekend in October.  Columbus day is not the most politically correct of holidays.  It’s not a national holiday (but neither are a couple of other holidays on the poll…)  Experience Columbus Days are October 05, 2007 thru October 08, 2007.

Who is participating in 2007 according to Experience Columbus?
“Beulah Park, CAPA, CATCO, the Columbus Blue Jackets, Columbus Children’s Theatre, Columbus Crew, the Columbus Historical Society, the Columbus Italian Festival, the Columbus Museum of Art, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, COSI Columbus, Franklin Park Conservatory, Historic Roscoe Village, Kelton House Museum and Garden, Magic Mountain Fun Centers, Mid Ohio Historical Museum, the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, the North Market, the Ohio Historical Center, Opera Columbus, the Santa Maria, Shadowbox, the Short North Arts District, Terror Park, The Ohio State University Department of Athletics, the Wexner Center for the Arts and the Wilds. ”

Special events and discounted admissions at area attractions is what I’ve experienced the last couple of years.

ExperienceColumbusDays.com is still showing 2006 info  but should be updated by mid September I believe.

There’s no Columbus Day Parade in Columbus… but there is a lot to do.

I believe the Italian Festival at St. John the Baptist Church in Italian Villages has been moved to coincide with Columbus Days this year.

Worthington - High Street

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

A recent column in Columbus Business First show the building that is going in next to National City Bank that is right in front of Real Living HER’s Worthington office on High Street.  A restaurant; Jason’s  Worthington

Currently dirt… it seems to be going so slow.  Much slower than the new  bank on the corner of High Street and Highland Ave. which has changed our view of Worthington.

They will be using some of the parking spots in Real Living HER’s parking lot in the evening for their valet parking.  What good neighbors we are being. ;-0
