Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Sunday, September 9, 2007  eight Clintonville area homes will be on tour;  Clintonville Home Tour.  It is the 25th annual Clintonville Home Tour

There’s a Gala the evening before with a dinner to preview the homes, that event costs $70.  The Gala starts at 5:00 promptly

Tickets for the homes tour on Sunday noon to five;  in advance are $9  and $12  day of event tickets are available at  the tour stops.

These homes are NOT homes that are for sale.  Sales of tickets benefit the Clintonville Fund.

The homes on this years Clintonville Home Tour were built between 1911 and 1952; I believe from the info on the website.

Homes showcased this year are on homes on Clinton Heights Ave. Brevoort Road, West Torrence Road,  Olentangy Boulevard, Chatham Road, Overbrook Drive, East Dominion Blvd. and Sheffield Road representing  some of the finest Clintonville area neighborhoods.

Home styles represented this year are  four-square (2 four-squares are on the tour), a Tudor, a Garrison style two-story, what’s described as a two and a half story “English cottage”, a home described as  ”unique European countryside style” and two cape cods.

Clintonville is the “and more” on the Real Living Video entitled  “Grandview and more”

Columbus Zoo - Good Luck Alligators

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

white alligator at the Columbus ZooGazing at a white alligator is good luck.   I guess you are supposed to gaze into their eyes.

I gazed… into the white alligators eyes.

The white alligator is a visitor at the Columbus Zoo I believe, I am not sure how long the visit is.  He is visiting from Florida I believe.

The white alligator is an albino.  He (or she?) has pink eyes.

Alligator guests at the Columbus Zoo NOW also include two alligators a man in Westerville was keeping in his basement.  The Westerville man does reptile rescue? Sunday night a neighbor heard a scratching at her door and there was a six foot alligator there?

The visitors were normal colored alligators I presume.  Not good luck to have alligators roaming the neighborhood.  According to what I read “Central Ohio residents surprised by visit from alligator” from: WBNS-TV,  no laws were broken, Ohio has no law against keeping exotic animals.  Could that could get you a place on the Rotten Neighbor Site  today? “He keeps alligators in the basement.”

We passed the “Circus House” (which is for sale now) in Victorian Village last Saturday and I mentioned legend that the Sells family kept elephants in the basement in the winter… I was ridiculed for believing that the Sells family kept elephants in their basement.  If people in 2007 can keep alligators in Westerville basments, isn’t it conceiveable that people in the 1800’s kept elephants in their basement?  They were circus folk…  their neighbors probably expected them to keep their elephants in the basement.

The Columbus Zoo is located north west of Columbus in southern Delaware County in the Powell area.

Downtown Central Ohio

Columbus map with gridA comment about Powell not having a downtown made me think about the suburbs of Columbus  which ones have downtown’s which ones don’t.   In ‘Fine dining guide to Columbus, Ohio - Central Ohio Restaurant reviews’  AKA FineRepast.com, he wrote of Maca Cafe in Powell:

“Located behind what used to be Clara’s store in the center of Powell (I still can’t say downtown Powell) is Maca Cafe.”

Powell has a kinda sorta itty bitty downtown, the corner of Liberty Rd and Powell Road doesn’t it?  Lots of the newer stuff is outside of “downtown” Powell isn’t it?  Out west on Powell Road.

Worthington has a downtown and Real Living has a video about it.  The Worthington video really focuses on downtown Worthington, Old Worthington.

Hilliard has a downtown….

Delaware is really a little far out to even be considered a suburb and when Real Living did a video they lumped Delaware (the city) with Powell.  To me they are to different to be lumped together.  I’d have lumped Lewis Center with Powell (and they are very different really) before Delaware (”city of”…  which does have a downtown see the Real Living  video on YouTube)

Dublin’s got a downtown…

Grandview has a downtown.

Gahanna has a downtown.

Westerville has an Uptown!

I have video’s about many of Columbus suburbs and neighborhoods on this page on ColumbusBestBlog.com  All of the video’s don’t necessarily focus on a communities downtowns. - Watch
