Festival Latino

taco

It took me a year but I tried “elotes” at Festival Latino last night. An elote? Corn on the cob with mayo, cheese (like a parmesan, queso fresco?) lime (according to the sign) and chili powder. More than one place had elotes but we went to the Taco George stand because I have remembered how great their tacos and tamales were for a year. The taco I had this year was not as good but the elote was great. I told the women in line with us that last year I thought about it but did not try elotes. They were hesitant to try one this year… “maybe next year.”

You could really taste the chili powder. The woman who made my elote up asked me if I wanted chili powder, so I guess I could have said “no mucho” (not much?) Un pocito (a little bit?)

There was lots of good music, my favorite a small group from Chile or Bolivia? Somewhere in the Andes.I have seen them, heard them before.

I forgot a camera, the taco pictured is not one from last night. The Taco George Taco was just meat, cilantro and onions. Authentic. No tomato.

We should have tried Salvadoran, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican food or something I don’t eat all the time. We had mexican food Friday night. I wanted to try elotes.

Real estate is local

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

There is a blogroll of some of my favorite bloggers in ColumbusBestBlogs sidebar.

Here are some other real estate sites I read… some are on my blogroll and some that I have started reading more recently….

Real estate is local. Things are done differently in each market. It is fun sometimes to read other blogs but I always come back shaking my head since we all know we do it best in Columbus and Central Ohio. ;-) Sorry I could not resist.

I had “blogrolls” one for real estate, one for Columbus blogs here before I could figure out how to add an entry.

I had a category called “real estate is local” on my Discover Columbus blog when it was called Columbus Best Blog. It was one of the least read categories on that blog so I won’t repeat it here. Central Ohioans don’t care about real estate outside of Columbus.

Real Living HER

Double dots. The logo in the sidebar here is called “double dots” not polka dots! My manager said so.

The Real Living brand has a big dot with the words Real Living in it. The different offices, HER in Central Ohio, Realty One in Cleveland (ooops I ought to know more but I don’t) have their name in a smaller dot. Our HER is in the little dot.

I’ve always thought of the brands as polka dots.

Everytime I hear the song Itsy-Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini I think of Real Living HER… ok our dots are red. It still works for me.

Early on in the life of both of my blogs I put a company brand in the entries to comply with state real estate laws until I could figure out how to put the brand (polka dots to me) in the sidebar of my blog. I don’t know that I publicly called them polka dots way back when in 2005… on my first blog but you can check the early entries here. They were fondly called polka dots!

These are polka dots according to Wikipedia (my manager told me so):

Polka dots from Wikipedia

Image

“Polka Dot is a pattern consisting of dots. Polka dot patterns are quite variable: they range from a series of dots that are equally spaced and sized to a random arrangement of multicoloured dots of different sizes. Polka dots are most commonly seen on children’s clothing, toys, and furniture, but they appear in a wide array of contexts. The pattern rarely appears in formal contexts, however, and is generally confined to more playful attire such as bathing suits. Occasionally white on black regularly spaced polka dots appear on more formal clothing.”

Single dot?

Real Living Logo

I don’t want to go mixing brands or anything but that Yogurt commercial… isn’t the Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini yellow with red polka dots?

I like polka dots. I mean no disrespect to the brand (they take it very seriously. I would never try to change the brand, modify it…) but in my brain they are polka dots. Informal, fun. Double dots are random.

I am hoping for the official word about a certain polka dots summer plans.

Columbus Zoo Things

snake

Things go better with Coca Cola… Things like reticulated pythons.

The Other Paper has a story about Coca Cola donating ads on their local trucks to promote the celebrity snake visiting at the Columbus Zoo now. The problem is the Coca Cola trucks say the snake is named Kitty. Jack Hanna, the Central Ohio celebrity pictured on the Coca Cola trucks says the snakes name is Fluffy.

In “Zoo ad misidentifies Jack’s snake” Sara Smith of The Other Paper wrote:

“As Coca Cola vehicles circle the city with posters on the back that say, “Don’t miss ‘Kitty’ World’s Largest Snake in Captivity” one is left to wonder if Fluffy’s burgeoning modeling career will ever recover.”

The Other Paper about the name mix up as the Columbus Zoo explains it:

“The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s director of marketing and sales, Jeff Glorioso, said the zoo has been fielding phone calls from avid reptile aficionados about the embarrassing blooper.

Kitty is the nickname one of the animal collections people at the zoo gave her,” Glorioso said of the scaly diva on loan to the zoo until November from a private citizen in Oklahoma. “They call her that because of the cat like markings on her skin.”

It seems the snake had an alias before hitting Columbus though. When I wrote about the snake back in April before she showed up, I found an article from A West Virginia that called Fluffy, “Kitty.”

The scoop from Huntington Herald-Dispatch in a ColumbusBestBlog.com entry:

“OTHER STUFF: Cowtown is packed with stuff to do. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (614) 645-3550 is always a good call and by Spring Break week will be hosting Kitty, the world’s largest python in captivity.”

In “Super Size Snake to Slither into Columbus” I wrote:

“the other sites where I initially saw the story said the snake’s name is Fluffy….

Kitty, Fluffy whatever her name is she is big and she goes on display at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium next Saturday.”

I personally like “Kitty” better than Fluffy as snake names go.

Kitty, Kitty, Kitty

The snake photo is from Geek Philosopher. It is not a python reticulated or otherwise.
