Every blog must have it’s day…

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Buddy dogEvery dog must have it’s day… I don’t think I even know what that saying means… or if the saying is a proverb or something else.

“Every dog must have it’s day” is the thought that came to mind when I read this morning that my other blog… my original blog, Discover Columbus is the blog of the day on RealTown Blogs.  That blog was Columbus Best Blog until this blog was created.

Every blog must have it’s day.  I went to bed last night ready to throw in the towel with real estate blogging…and maybe real estate and maybe humanity… sometimes canines are a lot nicer than people… 2007 Logo

Today Inman News has news of Internet Crusades / Real Town’s new portal for real estate professionals and consumers.  My Discover Columbus blog is an old blog for RealTown Blogs…it has evolved from the first very scary entry I put up in late August 2005 to today.

Thanks to RealTown  and RealTown Blogs.

Real Living is not related to RealTown… I just need to have a company logo in the article because I have not figured out how to add one on my blog in the right column yet.

Central Ohio Weather

Suburban home in snow with a postcard edge

I had a weather category on my original Columbus Best Blog….that blogs is now called Discover Columbus actually the category is called Time and Temperature and it was inspired by a church on N. High Street … with a big clock and temperature display in front…. A time and temparature ministry.  The category was not a big generator of comments or traffic… I wonder if I really even want that category here on my new blog. I invited a few guests over thanks to the monthly blog tour on Active Rain… organized by Maureen Francis from Michigan… In fact they could be here at any moment.

Today is Central Ohio’s first real brrr… cold weather in 2007… I am not sure that we’ve had a day this cold yet this year. We have not had snow… if it had been cold yesterday with all that rain… we’d have snowmen on front lawns.  Michigan got hit with ice yesterday or Sunday? and of course much of the midwest had a bad storm.  I am waiting for my friend Brynn in Oklahoma to check in with me via email.

Don Fabrizio-Garcia a REALTOR® in Connecticut blames their NW(?) Connecticut weather on the Ohio River Valley… Our winter weather comes from west of us somewhere usually… or northwest… those Alberta Clippers…but it is amazing how many times Central Ohio lucks out on weather… dodges the storms, send it  on to Connecticut to deal with.

If you are in the real estate industry (real estate agent, lender, stager, etc. ) join Active Rain a real estate network.

Most Columbus Restaurants get the green light…

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Restaurant sign with postcard edgeWell I need to write something other than real estate at some point if I want this site to be Columbus Best Blog in the spirit of the original Columbus Best Blog said “Columbus Best Blog is not the best blog in Columbus Ohio. This is a blog about what is best in Columbus and Central Ohio! Best restaurants, best real estate company, best schools, best neighborhoods…..”  …food always works.. but this may not be as appetiizing as most food and restaurant type entries…

I am reminded that trash pick up is color coded in Columbus too….

“The Central Ohio Restaurant Association is almost ready to back Columbus’ plan to post signs at businesses informing consumers of the results of health inspections” according to “Trade Association Warming to Warning System” a Business First of Columbus article written by Dan Eaton.
Today the “Central Ohio Restaurant Association” site still says: “Columbus Board of Health Announces Hearings on new Disclosure System of food safety inspection results.

Our preference remains a Pass/Fail system. The Board of Health says they want and will weigh input. Members are requested to attend one of the two hearing sessions on Wednesday, January 10, at Columbus Public Health, 9am-11am and 5pm-7pm”

Here’s the color coding for the Columbus Health Department’s plan according to the Business First of Columbus article. “Green for no violations.
Yellow for uncorrected critical violations.
White for businesses on probation.
Red for businesses shut down by inspectors”

Dan Eaton’s article said Dr. Teresa Long, Columbus health commissioner “said the health department conducted 23,000 inspections in 2006, and she estimated if the program were in place then, inspectors would have issued 5,920 green signs, 64 yellow, 24 white and nine red signs.” according to the Business First of Columbus article.
The very end of the article gave this information:
“Health history: Some common food safety violations encountered by the Columbus Health Department:
No person in charge. Every business must have an individual on site at all times who understands and is responsible for food safety issues and can answer questions about it. Cross-contamination. For example, putting food on a dirty surface, using unclean equipment to handle food, or storing meats above salads in coolers or freezers.
Improper temperatures. Applies to cooking and storing temperatures. Improper cooling of potentially hazardous food. Food should be cooled quickly to avoid potential tainting.
Source: Columbus Health Department”
In blogging about Columbus restaurants that might have goat on the menu another Columbus Blogger, Paul It’s a Paul World mentioned the health department.  I try not to think of those things.  I am not sure I don’t agree with the Central Ohio Restaurant Association… that pass / fail is better.
